HAPPY FALL!!!

October Curb Appeal Tips

Fall is such a dramatic change outside with leaves changing colors, beautiful full jewel-tone flowers in bloom & fun pumpkin colors! Get your home in the seasonal spirit by bringing some fall design trends to your curb appeal this year.

Remove leaves. While the colorful leaves are a showstopper in the fall, they can quickly become a problem if you let them linger in your yard or gutters. Leaves in your gutters can cause clogs and prevent water from routing away from your home. Leaves that are left in your yard can become a tempting
home for pests. Stay on top of leaf maintenance this fall by regularly raking your yard and install a LeafGuard gutter system so you never have to clean gutters again!

Bring the season to your front door. Fall and front porches go hand-in-hand. While there are some elaborate ways you can create a seasonal porch, just a simple wreath of fall foliage and potted mums can add an inviting touch. If you’re adding pumpkins to your front door décor, be sure to coat them with
a natural repellent like peppermint or garlic spray to keep the squirrels at bay.

Clean up the exterior. Fall is a great time to give your home’s exterior a good cleaning before winter sets in. While you’re cleaning, be sure to keep an eye out for any damage in your siding or shingles that need to be replaced.

Dress up your mailbox. You can easily spruce up your mailbox by adding a few corn stalks, pumpkins, and a seasonal flag. We often forget about this space when thinking about our home’s curb appeal, but don’t leave it out when adding the fall flair!

Add a touch of cozy. Here in Virginia, we are lucky to have a milder fall and winter which means you can get more use out of your outdoor living spaces! Add some cozy fall blankets and pillows to your outdoor seating and some lanterns for a cozy touch.

Happy Fall: Your Fall Checklist For Your Home

Your home is a huge investment — an investment you’ll want to protect for the long haul.

That means proper maintenance is key. Completing a few seasonal chores can help you extend the life span of your home while also cutting down on repair and renovation costs.

Want to make sure you’re keeping your home in tiptop condition? Then don’t skip these five must-do fall maintenance tasks:

Check for (and seal) air leaks around windows and doors. Leaks in these areas can make it hard to control your home’s climate and, as winter approaches, that could mean sky-high heating and gas bills. It could also make your home pretty uncomfortable year-round.

Clean out the gutters. When gutters get clogged with leaves and debris, water can’t drain properly. This might lead to standing water on your roof or eaves, which can cause significant and costly damage over time.

Inspect your roof. At the very least, your roof needs an annual inspection. Even small leaks or missing shingles can cause big problems like water damage, mold, mildew and more.

Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. These vital safety devices should always be in good working condition. Put them in test mode and make sure they’re all functioning properly. Batteries will usually need to be replaced every six months to a year.

Have your furnace inspected. If you heat your home with a gas-powered furnace, you’ll want the unit inspected at least once per year. Furnaces can pose serious fire and safety hazards if they’re not functioning properly.

It won’t take long to check these tasks off your list, and the payoff is well worth the effort.
